A Dream of a Day

Writer's picture: Tiffany SzpylmanTiffany Szpylman

It started with fruity pebbles and couch cuddles and some movie that didn’t matter. It led to outfits of red and blue, cubs gear, and matching vans all in the spirit of a baseball game at the Dodgers Stadium. The place where we went on to chug draft beer and decorate Dodger dogs in the midst of kisses, and laughter, and singing, and sweating – Leaving with pictures and memories to prove it all happened.

From one perfect moment to another, we time hop to a table in Malibu, and there’s waves, and white wine, and he looks perfect sitting across from me. We talk about weddings, and children, and things that matter. We’re smiling, and dreaming, and flirting – but most importantly we’re present. He comes to my side and now we’re together. Together to finish wine, together to watch the sunset over the Pacific, together to order the largest, most delicious, most dangerous ice cream cake on the menu. It’s Hula Cake, and the restaurant is Dukes. It was our own kind of paradise – and it didn’t end with cake.

As we drove away from this new favorite spot, we stumbled upon another. In this one it’s dark, and sharp, and hidden in the sounds of waves and layers of rocks. A place for ocean watching, star gazing, and talks of other worlds, of other lives – ones that are hidden at the bottom of the water. But all I’m really thinking about is how glad I am to be in this world, and in this life. How glad I am to be with this man, and in this moment. And in his arms on this brisk August night, I’m sure that I love him. And I’m sure that he’s the one – he has to be the one. How could it ever get better than this?
