A Note on Days

Writer's picture: Tiffany SzpylmanTiffany Szpylman

Some days I’m overwhelmed with gratitude and beauty for this life I live, and I have no idea how I got here but I’m insanely grateful.

And other days I’m over it, and I see those same things that were beautiful as the ugliest and I miss my mom, and quiet beaches, and diners, and simplicity.

I wonder if I will ever tire of this lifestyle, or if it will just morph into different ones.

LA challenges me. It tests my morals, it tears me down, it tells me I’m not enough and then reminds me that I’m beautiful and that my dreams matter.

Some days are so drastically lovely, I question how this could possibly be my life, and how I could possibly deserve to be so blessed.

And then there are other days.

On other days the scars look deeper than usual, so ugly, and the world is duller, and everyone around you is distant at once. Some days your dreams feel painfully unrealistic. Some days don’t have ready answers, and some days hurt.

But the best part about these days is tomorrow.

Tomorrow could be the best kind–the kind when you wake up and see beauty in the mirror, when life outside is blinding, love is overflowing, and those dreams you were made to conquer.

The secret is hope.

Without hope, the scars will tell you lies. The scars will say you’ll never be enough, and the minute you buy that lie it will appear as if the entire world does.

Persevere. You are human, a creation admired. Cry when necessary, but smile more. Put pride aside; it’s okay to feel.

It’s okay. You are not alone in this.

It’s okay. Time is not running out.

Life, like anything beautiful, comes in seasons. How else are we to embrace change?

Wait for tomorrow.
